The Hour From Hell

The fear of possibly owing $8000 must have put some never before seen fear in me. Not only am I working 3 nights this week, but I CONSIDERED going in again tonight for over time! But that would mean I would work every other night for the next week, which could quite possibly turn me into a patient. And this didn't help me want to go back again....

Around work, 5 o'clock, am or pm, is known for letting all hell break loose. Nurses are anxious to get their work done so they can give report and be out the door. Of course, that's when IVs go bad, patients decide to have chest pain, or pharmacy decides your last med to be given has disappeared off the face of the planet. My 5 o'clock experience goes like this:

I learn one patient is puking. I go into the room to find another nurse and my tech in full on personal protective gear - including masks - cleaning up enough vomit for 8 people. It's from the bed, to the bathroom door, and ran back underneath the bed to the other side of the room. It looked like something out of the exorcist, and it smelled like an 80 year old man's farts. So I help my two co-workers clean it up, paged the doctor, put an NGT (nasogastric tube - goes from the nose to the stomach, take a minute to think about that) down the man's nose, and walk out of the room. ONLY TO HEAR, my patient in the next room over trying to throw up his friggin small intestines! I page the same doctor - she wanted to know what I was doing to my patients and laughed at me a lot - and thankfully didn't have to do an NGT in him too. And I STILL managed to clock out on time! Take that stupid nursing career.

So I earned my money big time last night. And I won't be taking them up on the opportunity for over time tonight.

Oh, and instead of owing $8000, TurboTax says we're getting back $1400. I say we just file that and call it a day! What are the chances we'll be audited?

That Slutty Raccoon's Doing Our Taxes!

What's more shocking than this slutty raccoon story?

fail-owned-intercourse-fail
more fail, owned and pwned pics and videos

The fact that we could owe $8000 in taxes!!!!

Jordan almost always does our taxes through TurboTax. This year Jordan had everything done except EA kept screwing up his W2, in the form of not giving it to him. Yesterday he finally got it and plugged the numbers into TurboTax. And we went from a green $72 number to a red $8000 number! Let me repeat. Eight Thousand Dollars. He texts me this while I'm at work and I'm thinking he added too many zeros. No no, it's actually Eight Thousand Dollars. Ringing in my head over and over again. This CANNOT be right. We work normal jobs. We have our taxes taken out from each pay check. Eight Thousand Dollars. And then I remember to pray. I have no idea what the prayer was. It probably involved a lot of begging. But this is a step because when I panick I tend to forget God exsists. Then I started switching on and off between Eight Thousand Dollars and That HAS To Be Wrong! That's HALF of our savings. That's TWO trips out west. That's TWO car payments for a year. Most importantly though, that money is meant to stay IN our savings account!

That HAS to be wrong! Since there was such a huge swing in the numbers Jordan figured something had to be wrong, so he deleted the whole 2008 file. Having nothing filed just looked better than having the number 8000 staring at you in red. I know nothing about taxes, but today I attempted to punch in the numbers. With my humble attempt our red is $101. Whew. So as of now, we're somewhere between $101 and $8000! My heart hurts just thinking about it.

By John....Or Maybe Isaac.....

Interesting story. We're reading a John Ortberg book called The Life You've Always Wanted for our small group study at Grace Fellowship. We are doing chapter 4 this week. The chapter is titled A "Dee Dah Day". I think, hm, that's funny, I've heard that term used before. I begin to read the chapter and I recognize the story. It's about John's middle child getting out of the bath tub and she's dancing all around with joy. She's air drying to the song "Dee Dah Day". He goes on to tell in his hurry to get baths done he shushes her and makes her stop dancing. She asks why and he has no answer. In his hurry to get to whatever, he isn't letting his daughter be joyful the way God has intended all of us to be.

Great story huh?

Want to hear another funny story, OUR OLD PASTOR TOLD THIS EXACT SAME STORY AS HIS STORY! Instead of the little girl's name being Mallory (John Ortberg's daughter), her name was changed to Ella (Isaac's daughter) and she danced around the bathroom singing the exact same "De Dah Day" song.

And that's my public service announcement for the week.....

So, This is What It's Like?

It's only week 2 of alpha and I'm already so tired of being alone. I don't mind being alone during the day, although I prefer a trip to the store even to break that up. But being alone at night gets so old, so fast. I feel for my single friends, and I understand why people choose to have roommates even when those roommates drive them crazy.

Today I went to the grocery store and ended up buying out the TV dinner section. Which is a stretch for me because I hate the idea of TV dinners. They are bad for you, bad food, and pretty stinking lazy. But it suuuuuuuucks cooking for just one person. I'll admit though, Stouffers Chicken Pot Pie was the best I've ever had.

After dinner with myself, I went to the movie. ALONE! I've never done this before. It's really sad, and pretty pathetic, but I didn't want to sit around the house doing nothing. I went to see Coraline. It's directed by the same guy who did Nightmare Before Christmas. It's based on a horror/fantasy novel. It was REALLY good. Really weird, sitting in the movies all by myself. But I'm so glad I went to see this one. It really had a spiritual undertone. I won't go into details, it wouldn't make sense unless you saw the movie, but I really enjoyed it. I'm still confused about the bug furniture though....?

And a little Peanut Butter Jelly time. Today I went for my usual walk. Normally the dogs a glued to the window so each time I go past the house there are they're eager little faces looking out at me. On my second lap around today, they weren't there. I immediately thought "What are they getting into?" By the time I got back in the house I had forgotten and they played up the "we weren't doing anyting bad" bit good enough to fool me. Tonight after I got home from the movie I hear them in the kitchen crunching away on their food, or what I thought was their food. Ends up they found the kitty food bag in the pantry. Who knows how long they've been eating out of it. And when I went in to confront the little monsters, Peanut just looked at me like I was the idiot for leaving it within their reach. Which I guess I kind of was....

Alligators on Turf Grass

I stained the patio on my day off. I hated the green and couldn't wait until Jordan decides he's going to tile it. I'm happy with the way it turn out.

Is it turf grass? No, they just painted it to LOOK like the stuff! How cleaver!

The floor just disappears. How floors should be

We went to Blue Springs Today - Valentine's day. It was a beautiful day to be outside.

The sky didn't have a cloud in it

See the alligator? No? Click to enlarge

After walking around the board walk we just sat around in the sun

Koalas Go Snowboarding

Surprise! We're going skiing. In a month. What? Where did that come from? It came from letting Jordan and Emily spend 3 minutes together. Oh brother. And HOW am I supposed to stay warm? Alison to the rescue! Well, all her waterproof/windproof/thermal gear really. Breckenridge here we come! And now to watch mucho "How to snowboard" videos on YouTube.

And maybe I want a Koala instead of a bunny. Please please please do not pass up the opportunity to visit this link.

I Want Horses, 250 Of Them

This week was our last week as a married couple. Next week I'll become an EA widow until May. This tends to be the time of year when I gain weight and forget how to cook, which takes me another full year to remember.

We test drove some Cadillac CTSs this week. I really like them, and will eventually have one. I can't decide when, and which one though. I'm thinking our best bet is after our big trip out west and after Jordan's bonus is in the bank. He will be getting somewhere between 0-15% his yearly salary. So obviously we can't count on that too much. I'm sick up to here (imagine me point to about eye level) with my car. But it gets me from point A to point B. And eventually I'll have 250 horsepower getting me from those two points!

Last weekend was jam packed, and it looks like this one won't be any better. Tomorrow I'm going to a Ladies Tea Social in our neighborhood. I imagine it being me and 15 old ladies. Worse case scenario, I leave early. Best case, I meet our neighbors. Saturday night I'm going out with the girls from work. PF Changs and a wine bar. I'm drooling already. And Sundays seem like they will stay busy for the next 12 weeks: church, eat with parents, then bible study.
