In 2008 I bought this amaryllis. I think I got it from Target. It was a pretty pot, with dirt in it, and the promise of a bloom within 30 days. This was around the time that my grandfather had his stroke.

My grandfather was a skilled horticulturist. He had a green thumb like no other person I've ever met. My favorite memory of him was when he helped me with a science project. I had to make a notebook of 100 different plant leaves with their scientific and common names. He took me all around his property and collected every one of the leaves I needed.

Right after my grandfather passed away the amaryllis bloomed. Although it required little skill to get it to bloom, it was nice being apart of what my grandfather so loved to do. The amaryllis just bloomed again this week, and this time with 2 blooms. I had little hope for it to ever bloom again, considering how much I neglected it over the winter. But it did and now I am reminded of what I have, what I love, and what I want in my life.

Family Garden

Last week Jordan and I drove to Baton Rouge for his brother's wedding. It was an exhausting, whirl wind of a trip, but I'm glad we were able to make it and be apart of Adam and Abby becoming husband and wife. Even though it was such a busy trip, ironing table clothes, hanging lights, sweeping the church, we had a great time catching up with family.

The weekend before going to the wedding we did some major yard work in the front yard. Most everything was killed by the frost during the unusually cold winter so we pretty much had to start fresh. I don't know why, but I really enjoy working on our yard. I end up with sore muscles like you wouldn't believe, but it's relaxing and I put up with it even though I get dirt under my nails.

I'm supposed to cut back this rose bush, but it has blooms on it and I feel like I'd be hurting it. I just don't have the heart.



Jordan came up with all the placement of the plants. He did a really great job.

I forget what these are called, but I love them. They are about to bloom little yellow flowers.



These are Society Garlic plants. Jordan likes to point out all the flowers are purple and yellow, LSU colors.


Now for the real work to begin.... the backyard!
