The Happenings

The floor we originally picked out is a no-go. We went back to the floor store today and found 4 different samples we brought home. We have narrowed it down to 2.... I like one, Jordan likes the other. But we did pick the kitchen tile and tile for the fireplace. I'm really excited about the fireplace tile, we added a little extra something to give it some interest. It will have a band of tumbled 1/2" tile mixed with glass tile along the top portion of the fireplace. This will add texture and color.

This week is week #8 since I started running. During week 5 I had some foot and calf problems so I was fitted for shoes at a local running store. Every since then I have broken through a wall and really stepped up my timing. On Wednesday I ran 25 minutes on the treadmill and on Friday I ran 40 minutes straight! If you had asked me 8 weeks ago if I thought I could ever do that I would have just laughed. Now I'm not breaking any speed records, but I'll be working on that until July 24th when I run my first 5k. I'm even considering running the Disney Half Marathon in January but I figured I'd start with the 5k and see how it goes.

Always exciting stuff going on in the Pitts' home!

Wood vs Dogs

Tonight the wood floor shopping commenced, and it very quickly became laminate floor shopping. Everyone seems convinced that dogs and laminate are a better suit than dogs and wood. We found exactly what we wanted in wood floors but in a laminate version. I'm still not convinced I even want laminate, cause it's laminate and that's a dirty, dirty word. But it's Mohawk and supposed to hold up better than wood then I guess that's what we will need to get. Or we could get rid of the dogs. Oh, and ripping up and hauling away all this ugly pink tile is going to be SO WORTH $2 a square foot!

We've Been Running

These past couple of weeks have had us running! Literally, running. I never thought I'd be able to say "I'm going out for a jog" or "I've run a 5k", so 4 weeks ago I started the Couch To 5k running program. It's a beginner program for runners with the end result being able to run 30 minutes straight. While I have followed this program to a T, I have gotten exactly what they have promised. Week one, I could barely make it through a 1 minute run. I got the painful side stitch and could barely catch my breath. Now that I'm at week 4 I can run 5 minutes straight, 15 minutes total, and I'm looking forward to see what week 5 has in store. In 3 days of training, in other words, by next Saturday, I'm supposed to be able to run 20 minutes straight. The program hasn't failed me yet, so I'm excited. Unfortunately the temp is well into the 90s here so it's really disgusting running outside, which is where I do all my training.

Since I had a feeling I'd never be able to stick with this program and promise to myself without some major motivation, I started a running group. It's mainly girls from work and a couple other friends. We meet every Saturday morning at Lake Eola and run whatever the plan is for that week. So far we have some really dedicated running warriors and we have all seen improvement in our abilities. I even get Jordan to go with me, which is a stretch considering we have to be out the door by 8:30 on a Saturday. Even then, I really enjoy it and can't wait to be able to say "I ran a 5k".

We've also been doing some hardcore work on our backyard. These hydrangeas are my favorite flowers back there.

Jordan strung some lights over the patio area. It's so peaceful to sit out there at night with a glass of wine next to the jasmine vines blooming.

This weekend Jordan decided to put in some accent lights in the living room. If you know Jordan you know he is obsessed with lighting. I didn't think twice about it, but when he showed me them completed I was amazed. They really add to the living room. I never would have guessed some $12.99 lights would make such a statement.

We finished the far right corner of our yard today but I don't have a picture of it and my legs are too tired to walk out there. Once we get the mulch down I'm sure I'll be taking more pictures.
